People have sensitive skin because their skin reacts more strongly than average to external factors, such as products, weather, or friction. This sensitivity is often due to a weakened or imbalanced skin barrier, overactive nerve endings, or underlying skin conditions.
There are many factors which make your skin sensitive such as weakened skin barrier, overactive immune response, skin conditions, harsh products, hormonal changes, genetics, and environmental factors.
Using a cleanser that is gentle on the skin will help. Predominantly, one that is fragrance-free so your skin doesn't get irritated. Avoid over exfoliating your face, it will lead to dry and extra sensitive skin.
Using active ingredients can be beneficial however, you have to start of slow otherwise your skin will be irritated.
Best to start with the lowest concentration of active ingredients and do a patch test. If something feels off wash it off quickly.
Don’t combine many different strong actives (e.g., retinol + AHAs + vitamin C) in one routine. Space them out—morning and night, or different days.
Keep your skincare routine simple and consistent. Using multiple different products isn't good for the skin, it will be hard to find what works for you or which product is causing the irritation.
